Fairfax Meadow withdraws meat products after FSA investigation

UK-based meat producer Fairfax Meadow has voluntarily withdrawn some of its meat products which it provides to the foodservice industry following an unannounced inspection by the Food Standards Agency (FSA).

The inspection was carried out last week as part of the FSA and Food Standard’s Scotland ongoing investigation into food hygiene standards.

The FSA found that Fairfax Meadow was not complying with regulations relating to the application of use by dates on some of its products.

Fairfax Meadow then made the decision to withdraw the potentially-affected products from the market, and committed to changing their labelling procedures in order to comply with FSA standards.

The FSA stressed that there was “no indication” that any consumers had become ill after consuming meat supplied by Fairfax Meadow. The FSA also stated it was satisfied with the action taken by the company, and that it does not anticipate it will enforce sanctions at present.

Fairfax Meadows supplies a range of meat products such as burgers, sausages and cooked meats to restaurants, pubs and hotels and other foodservice businesses.
