International Breweries’ $250m Nigeria facility to open next week
2018-08-28 From: FoodBev AB InBev-owned International Breweries has spent $250 million on a new brewery in Nigeria, which will be inaugurated by president of the country Muhammadu Buhari. Located in Ogun State, the plant is the company’s fourth brewery in Nigeria, after those in Ilesa, Onitsha and Port Harcourt. The firm produces beers such as Trophy and Hero. AB InBev revealed the project last year and the facility will be the company’s largest brewery in Africa outside of South Africa. It is expected that AB InBev CEO Carlos Brito will also attend the opening ceremony, which will take place next Tuesday. International Breweries managing director Annabelle Degroot said the plant represents a major step towards the company’s goal of producing high-quality drinks locally. She said: “International Breweries Plc is a brand that places a premium on quality. Bearing this in mind, we will spare no expense or effort in ensuring that Nigerians are treated to the best traditions in brewing, with outstanding recipes, superior ingredients, innovation and world-class techniques. The outcome is to ensure satisfaction and enjoyment for our consumers.” AB InBev has merged its three subsidiaries in Nigeria – International Breweries, Pabod Breweries and Intafact Breweries – into one unit, called International Breweries. Earlier this month, AB InBev unveiled plans to construct a new brewery in Mozambique in the second half of 2019, to compete with rival Heineken.
