Ingredion Incorporated has announced the Singapore Food Agency has added Reb M Stevia Leaf Sweetener to the list of permitted food additives.

Reb M is a non-caloric stevia sweetener that provides sweetness with a sugar-like taste without bitterness, enabling food and beverage manufacturers to reduce sugar, without sacrificing taste.

The production process starts with the stevia leaf and uses a bioconversion process to achieve high quantities of Reb M, claimed to be economically unattainable from traditional stevia extraction methods.

Commercialised in 2017, Reb M has been approved in many regions around the world and is Non-GMO Project verified.

“The sugar-reduction trend is reshaping the way manufacturers formulate for sweet taste globally and we are excited to expand further into the Asia–Pacific region,” said Tom Fuzer, APAC sugar reduction platform lead, Ingredion.

Ingredion currently distributes Reb M & Reb D stevia leaf sweeteners in North America, Colombia, Peru, Australia and New Zealand. Ingredion will distribute to additional countries, pending the approval of regulatory protocols.
