The FDA’s investigators at work

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has investigated unauthorised infant and children's food in supermarkets and on market stalls.

The FDA said it would be working to ensure the quality of food and regulating supermarkets and shops to ensure they only sold goods with the FDA logo.

The preliminary phase of the crackdown on unlicensed products will be a market investigation detailing product names, food category and manufacturing and expiry dates.

Shopkeepers found violating regulations face up to three years in jail and fines.

“We are investigating traders and will check for logos and an ingredients list in easy-to-understand language. We will inspect items that have an FDA licence to ensure they are not ignoring the regulations. We are doing this in cooperation with the Food and Drug Board of Authority,” said Dr Zin Zin Nwe from the FDA.
