FDA lifts ban on GMO salmon
2019-03-13 From:WLNS.com WASHINGTON (CBS) - The Food and Drug Administration is now allowing genetically-modified salmon to be imported into the United States, despite protests from environmental groups. The agency lifted a ban on salmon eggs, which are modified by a company called "Aqua Bounty" to grow twice as fast. It said the ban is unnecessary because new regulations require companies to disclose bio-engineered products. Aqua Bounty claims its fish will help meet increasing demand and reduce costs. A coalition of consumer and fishing groups is suing over safety and contamination concerns.
