Cascades launches water-repellent cardboard picnic cooler

Packaging manufacturer Cascades has launched a new water-repellent picnic cooler made from recycled cardboard.

The Canada-based firm said that the new cooler is composed of 70% recycled fibres and “offers a green alternative to non-recyclable limited-use coolers”.

It has been specially designed for outdoor activities and to keep food cool. Although it has been designed for limited-use, it can be recycled.

According to Cascades, the outer shell of the portable cooler is made with FSCcertified NorShield cardboard which renders it water-repellent. The inside insulating layer is covered with a metalised film liner that acts as a thermal barrier, “making it as effective as traditional limited-use coolers”.

Founded in 1964, Cascades produces, converts and markets packaging and tissue products that are composed mainly of recycled fibres.
