Demand for flexible packaging in Poland rises by 5% in a year

Demand for flexible packaging in Poland grew by 5% during 2014 – significantly higher than the Europe-wide average – according to PCI Films Consulting’s latest review.

European flexible packaging markets grew by an average of 1.4% year on year, while demand in Western Europe was even lower at just 1.2%. That means that the Polish market grew at a rate more than four times faster than some other parts of Europe, while Turkey, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Romania also performed well.

PCI noted that Europe’s €12.9bn flexible packaging market remained one of the largest and most sophisticated in the world, accounting for 20% of the global total, with Germany taking the largest individual market share.

It also predicted that demand would increase slightly in Western Europe in the year to come as packaged food demand in some of the struggling EU economies continues to recover. But this would be offset in Eastern Europe by an anticipated 1% decline in the market caused by falling consumption in Russia and Ukraine, PCI added.

The author of PCI’s review, Paul Gaster, said: “For the second year running there have been very few inflationary pressures within the European flexible packaging market and volume consumption growth in most European countries has been tracking that of value over the last year. Poland, however, has stood out as the one major market where demand has continued to grow strongly, underpinned by robust domestic demand and a successful focus on packaged food exports.”
