EU lifts ban on some food from Japan imposed over nuclear disaster
2017-11-16 From: Japan Today BRUSSELS-The European Union said Saturday it will lift on Dec 1 its import ban on some food from Japan including rice produced in Fukushima imposed after the 2011 nuclear disaster. With the import ban on Fukushima rice removed, rice farmers in other prefectures will no longer need to prove that their products contain no rice from Fukushima where the meltdowns at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear complex resulted in land and sea contamination. Radioactive cesium was also detected in other parts of the country. The European Union also lifted its import ban on some other farm produce, such as bamboo shoots and edible wild plants, and fishery products from Fukushima and nine other prefectures.
