Vitafoods: 20 years on and still at the forefront of innovation
2016-05-30

From:FoodBev

Global nutraceutical event Vitafoods Europe continued to showcase a wealth of innovation as the show celebrated its 20th anniversary this year.

I managed to grab a word with Colin Williams, who handles the marketing for Vitafoods. He told me that he was happy with how the show had progressed over the past two decades with the innovation zone and tasting bar continuing to be just one of the highlights for Vitafoods. The full interview will be on FoodBev.com very soon.

A look around the halls and aisles proved to be an enlightening experience with many companies unveiling a range of interesting and unique studies, products and formulations.

One such company was Ingredia; I spoke to them about their Prodiet 90 nutritional protein. Aude Ragot mentioned to me that Prodiet 90 was a milk protein isolate, including a high protein content of 90% with a low lactose content of just 1%.

On the Bioenergy Ribose stand, energy was on the agenda, with the company telling me all about Ribose, a natural sugar that the body makes and uses to produce the energy molecules for cells within the body. It was explained to me that by increasing my ribose intake I would have increased energy recovery, maintained energy levels in heart and muscle tissue, and that it also supports heart health.

Elsewhere, there were lots of items to discover at the tasting bar, giving visitors the chance to see, touch and taste retail-ready finished products, providing a unique insight into the latest developments. Innovative products that caught my eye were a smooth and fruity high-protein spread from Pro Dietic, which was said to be used for sport activities, slimness and wellbeing; and gluten relief chewable tablets from Advanced Enzyme Technologies, which was said to aid in the digestion of gluten and casein. It was also said that the chewable tablets, as well as supporting digestion of gluten, would ease gas and bloating.

Finally catching my attention at the tasting bar were black detox bites by Cambridge Commodities. These detox bites were filled with nutrient-dense ingredients that are said to nourish the body and were made with charcoal, suitable for vegans and free-from diets.

Overall, Vitafoods 2016 once again proved why it was at the forefront of exhibitions within the food and beverage sector, with well over 900 exhibitors in four halls attracting what is reported to be over 16,500 visitors.
