Food & Wine Expo returns to Niagara
2017-04-17 From: Niagara Falls Review
Get ready to indulge in a global smorgasbord of tasty treats. “We truly do have something for everyone … from the beer and wine connoisseurs to food lovers of all kinds, to cooking gurus and home chefs looking to learn something new,” said show manager Paul McNair. The show will feature wine, beer and spirits from around the globe, as well as regional wines. The samples will be served alongside local cuisine prepared by top chefs and restaurants. About 14,000 people last year attended the expo, which is billed as Niagara’s largest international tasting event. New exhibitors this year include Mai Thai Cuisine, Chocolate Moonshine, Zapata Mexican Restaurant and Rheault Distillery. Returning favourites include Sue Anne Staff Winery, Whitewater Brewing Co., Pondview Estates and Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse. “This is an excellent opportunity to sample a diverse array of wines and taste some of the best cuisine for a fraction of the price all in one place,” McNair said. An interactive live cooking demonstration called Chef and the Dish will be held via Skype and feature guest chefs from Japan, Hungary, Spain and New England. “It was a feature we had at our Toronto Gourmet Food & Wine Expo last fall and it was a huge hit, standing room only to watch, so we felt it would be equally a big hit in Niagara,” McNair said. “Plus, we’re a techy society so it seemed a natural.” Also, the chef stage will host ongoing cooking demonstrations and first-hand culinary training sessions hosted by local chefs and the tasting stage will offer 30-minute wine tasting classes. The event includes live entertainment featuring Stacey Renee and the Shea D duo of Peter Shea and Juliet Dunn. On Friday, a competitor from the upcoming Niagara Falls Elvis Festival will give guests a sneak peak of the May event with a live performance.
