Kerala Culinary Challenge 2010
2010-02-10
India Exhibition & Conference Services is organising Kerala Culinary Challenge 2010, a competition for chefs, in May 2010 at three places -- Kochi, Munnar and Trivandrum. At Koch, the show will be held on May 3-4 at Gokulam Convention Centre, Kaloor; at Munnar on may 6-7 at Munnar Catering College and at Trivandrum on May 10-11. There the venue is yet to be fixed.
Kerala Culinary Challenge was being organised for the third time and chefs from hotels/resorts across the state and southern districts of Tamil Nadu were being invited to take part in the prestigious event and vie for top honours, Joseph Kuriakose, director, India Exhibition & Conference Services, told Food & Beverage News at Kochi. A minimum of 25 hotels /resorts and 100 chefs from each city would be participating in the Culinary Challenge. The Department of Tourism, Government of Kerala, was being approached to honour the winners of this competition, he said. The show would be an ideal opportunity for companies to target the hospitality sector, especially the chefs in Kerala. The event would be endorsed and supported by the Classified & Approved Hotels Association of Kerala, Kerala Hotels & Restaurants Manufacturers Association (KHRA), MHRA and South Kerala Hoteliers Association. This would be a standalone competition and not tied up with any exhibition, Kuriakose said. The categories that have been finalised for the Culinary Challenge include Dressing the Cake, Fruit & Vegetable Carving, Hot Cooking (Fish), Hot Cooking (Chicken), Hot Cooking – Chicken (Students & Apprentices), Rice Dish, Kerala Cuisine, Cocktail/Mocktail Competition, Bread & Pastry Display Dessert and Barista Competition. The prime objective of Culinary Challenge was to establish a professional platform where culinary professionals across Kerala could display their individual and collective skills, creativity, learn and share experience, partner and network in a purely competitive and business like environment. Alan Palmer, world renowned chef and member of the World Association of Chefs Society (WACS) would be the chief judge for the event along with a panel of eminent persons from the local hospitality sector.
