Food Bowl selects NZ aseptic technology

New Zealand-based aseptic technology manufacturer Xenos Limited has recently installed an X500PP aseptic bottle filling machine and a tubular UHT pasteuriser at the new Manukau Food Innovation Centre in Auckland, New Zealand.

Referred to as the 'Food Bowl', the Manukau Food Innovation Centre is a 2,000 square metre export certified purpose built centre that supports food manufacturers as they develop and test their products for commercialisation.

It was designed to assist smaller companies who want to commercialise but might not necessarily have the resources available to do so.

The Xenos X500PP pilot scale aseptic bottle filling machine installed at the site has a speed of up to 500 bottles per hour, and can be used for a variety of products, from the aseptic filling of milks and juices to pasteurised milks and hot fill juices. It is suitable for use with plastic and glass bottles, in a range of bottle sizes.

This bottling system steams and dilutes bottles in hydrogen peroxide before exposing them to UV light. This provides an extremely effective sterilisation process in a short time period.

The Xenos aseptic bottling system is popular among beverage producers world wide as the process eliminates the need for preservatives, caters for a range of bottle containers and provides a hygienic, long-life product.

The tubular UHT pasteuriser installed at the Food Bowl is connected to this filler, running at a speed of 150 litres per hour. With a broad temperature capacity from 72ºC for milk to 142ºC for other beverage products, this machine can process a wide range of beverage types.

Xenos designed, prototyped, and built their own innovative aseptic processing technology, putting it through extensive and rigorous proof-of-concept testing in our own beverage business (producing 3 million units per year), before making it commercially available in 2008.
